Step 2: Applying for Financial Aid
There are many financial resources available to assist with your college tuition and expenses. The process may seem intimidating but we have people who can assist you. Please take the time to apply because you'll never know what funding youll be eligible for. Can you imagine the possibilities of attending college for free? It could happen! Almost every student is eligible for some type of financial aid.
You should begin applying for financial aid as early as possible. By applying early, you increase your chances of receiving the most money KCC has to offer. The earliest you can begin applying for financial aid is January 1.

First, apply for a Pin Number. Your Pin Number is your electronic signature that you'll need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. If you are under the age of 24, one of you parents/legal guardians will also need to apply for a pin.

What types of documents should you have available when you complete the FAFSA?-
Your Social Security Number & Your Parents' Social Security Number.

Your Driver's License Number (if you have one).

Parent's Federal Tax Forms (Federal tax forms are normally form 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ) & W2's.

Your Federal Tax Forms & W2's, if you worked

Current bank statements

Records of other income received (child support, investments, worker's compensation, etc.)

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Be sure to list KCC's School Code (001613). Click below to find out some of the most common errors you want to avoid making.
What are the most common mistakes people make when filling out the FAFSA?-
Leaving answers blank. Instead of leaving an answer blank, you should put a "0."

Using commas or decimal points. You should always round your answers to the nearest dollar.

Listing an incorrect Social Security Number or Driver's License Number. Always double check your entries. If you parent's do not have a Social Security Number, list 000-00-0000.

Entering names incorrectly. The name you want to list is the name as it appears on your Social Security Card.

Entering the wrong address. Be sure to enter your permanent home address.

Entering the wrong federal income tax paid. This amount should always be lower than the amount of wages you've earned.

Listing Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) as equal to total income from working: AGI and total income from working are not necessarily the same. In most cases, the AGI is larger than the total income from working.

Failure to register for Selective Service. All males between 18-26 MUST register for Selective Service. By not doing so, you will not be eligible for financial aid.

Forgetting to list the college: Obtain the Federal School Code for the college you plan on attending and list it along with any other schools to which you've applied.

Forgetting to sign and date: If you're filling out the paper FAFSA, be sure to sign it. If you're filing electronically using FAFSA on the Web, be sure to obtain your PIN from www.pin.ed.gov. Your PIN is your electronic signature and will always be assigned to you only.

Finally, check your MyUH account for updates on your financial aid status or contact the Kekaulike Information and Services Center. It's very important for you to maintain your financial aid status regularly. Financial aid is awarded on a first-completed, first-awarded processes. If you don't submit all the necessary documents, KCC can't determine how much you may be eligible for.
