Get Started!
Step 7: Survive the First Few Days of Instruction
New people, new environment, new beginning! The first few days of college can be daunting but the following are some tips to ease the transition from high school to your first semester at KCC.
-
Parking is FREE but we have approximately 900 parking stalls to be shared by approximately 9500 students. We encourage alternative means of transportation like The Bus, carpooling, bicycle, moped, or motorcycle because parking is very tight especially between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm. In past semesters, we were able to offer additional stalls across the street at the Diamond Head Theater with FREE valet parking. Please manage your time wisely because parking challenges are not an excuse for tardiness.
-
Parking in LOT A requires a FREE sticker. A limited number of stickers are available to students that have registered and paid for their courses. LOT A applications can be picked up, completed, and submitted in the Office of Student Activities in Iliahi 126.
-
Students can park in LOT A stalls or any STAFF stalls AFTER 4:00 pm.
-
Free parking spaces designated for bicycles, mopeds and motorcycles are located throughout the campus. No sticker is required.
-
KCC has a unique layout and can be confusing at first. Prior to the first day of instruction, check out our campus map and take a self-guided tour to locate your courses.
-
For a guided tour of the campus, contact KCC's Ambassadors Campus Tour Program at 808.734.9435 or kcctours@hawaii.edu
-
Get your books early! The bookstore is usually very hectic from the week before school starts into the first week of classes. Books go on sale three weeks before classes begin.
-
The cafeteria in the ‘Ohi‘a building opens at around 6:00 am and starts serving food at 7:00 am. Wireless internet is available in the cafeteria.
-
Your wireless devices can be set up in the Lama Library.
-
Keep a copy of the academic calendar on hand because it includes very important dates and information.
-
These are just some tips to get you better situated. For further assistance, ask anyone on campus and they'll gladly answer all your questions.
Again, there are resources everywhere, just reach out and ask.
How did you feel on the first day of college?
